Lantern Floating ~ Memorial Day

June 1, 2011

Peace. Serenity. And 10,000 of your closest friends. Every Memorial Day, people come from all over Hawaii and Japan to remember loved ones and join this shimmering celebration of life. Although there are many tears, it is not a somber affair. There are hula performances, Japanese taiko drumming, and families having picnics up and down the beach. About 20 cameras capture the event for rebroadcast in Japan. Sponsored by the Shinnyo-en religion, the celebration is open to all. NatHi tip: pack a lunch with lots of drinks and get there early. It’s magic.:: Lantern Floating Hawaii
